The All India Council
for Technical Education (AICTE) is a statutory
body established by the Government of India
through Act No.52 of 1987, for proper planning
and coordinated development of Technical
Education system throughout the country,
promotion of qualitative improvement of
Technical Education in relation to planned
quantitative growth, regulation and proper
maintenance of norms and standards in the
Technical Education system and for matters
connected therewith. Technical Education
includes the fields of Engineering &
Technology, Architecture, Town Planning,
Management, Pharmacy, Hotel Management &
Catering Technology and Applied Arts &
Crafts. |
The Research and Institutional Development
(RID) Bureau of AICTE plays a pivotal role
in coordinating research and development
of technical education in the country at
all levels. RID is responsible for promoting
inovations, research and development in
established and new technologies, generation,
adoption and adaptation new technologies
for overall improvement of educational processes.
RID formulates schemes for promoting technical
education for women, handicapped and weaker
sections of the society. This function is
carried out by allocating and disbursing
grants out of the fund of AICTE council
to AICTE approved technical institutions
and universities. |
